This book originated from a trio of aspirations: -Paying tribute to the Seafarers and the profession of fisherman; -To introduce the reader to the birth of a port and its development; -To restore the colour of life in old times: the colours of work conditions and of the religious ceremony called Benediction of the Sea. Port-en-Bessin is – and always was – a village focused on the sea, relying on its resources, as evidenced by its motto “Res nostra mare” – ”Our Cause is the Sea”. The village and its inhabitants have been shaped by their direct relationship with the sea, through love relationships, often tumultuous and sometimes tragic.
